Sonos Wander remark: Lightweight speaker, huge well worth
- Advanced level framework
- Little and you may cellular phone
- Completely liquids and dustproof
- Decent sound because of its dimensions
- Assortment of wise presenter personnel
- Wireless charging
- No Bluetooth music pairing
- Can not work just like the an effective speakerphone
- Reduced battery life than additional sound system
The latest $399 Sonos Move is a very capable cordless speaker. When yourself, it can interact with the remainder of your Sonos technology, and its depending-inside microphone allows it act as a google- otherwise Alexa-pushed wise speaker. Away from home, the Bluetooth broadcast and you will 10-hour rechargeable-battery makes for a powerful, mobile sound system. Better, perhaps not that cellular phone.
In truth, as good as this new Flow try, it’s never likely to be a get-and-wade speaker since it is way too large and you may overweight. Heading in the family area on platform? Make Disperse. Going in the deck on the park? That is a separate tale.
However we possess the proceed the link $169 Sonos Wander. It has got most of the Move’s potential (following particular), but it’s a fraction of the new Move’s dimensions, pounds, and you can price. Does this improve Roam a no-brainer buy to possess Sonos fans? Let’s try it.
What’s regarding the package?
Sonos is definitely a chief for the sustainably manufactured activities, nevertheless Roam was the top energy yet ,. It even is sold with a convenient title to aid decide which parts are going to be reprocessed.
For the short, obviously posted cardboard box, you’ll find the fresh Roam, an excellent USB-C billing wire, a released quick-initiate book, and not a tip out of vinyl otherwise lather.
Design
The first thing that impacts your after you unbox the brand new Sonos Wander simply exactly how quick it’s. It is far from just the smallest Sonos speaker by the a giant margin, on a tresses more 6.5 in high, but it’s plus a bit faster and you will lightweight than lots of the brand new Wireless sound system it could be contending that have, like the $120 JBL Flip 5 and the $150 Marshall Emberton.
Despite their diminutive dimensions, new Roam’s minimalist design is actually pure Sonos, if or not clad when you look at the matte black colored or matte light such as for example our very own comment tool.
The Toblerone-esque triangular contour isn’t just to possess looks; it makes the Roam very grabbable. Position any kind of its around three corners into the their palm, as well as your fingertips without a doubt curl within curved corners, over the almost every other a few sides. Where the Move’s incorporated hold deal with constantly seems a tiny high-risk when you need it, the fresh Roam’s profile very nearly pleads one information it up and you may take it to you.
You could stay the fresh Roam right up vertically or put they down horizontally making use of the five mainly based-inside the plastic legs to keep they safely secured to whatever facial skin you choose.
The new physical regulation also are very stealthy – a set of five buttons that are undetectable behind a layer out of rubber on the top panel, barely hinted at from the the quite increased icons. Out of a radius of a few ft, it vanish.
Brand new speaker grille, along with its a huge number of small perforations, efficiently combines into the Roam’s system. It appears as though it could get improperly dented, however, about you to slim covering try an even more strong hexagonal lattice, which provides this new grille a remarkable amount of tightness.
Two smaller Led lighting invisible about brand new grille tell you the fresh speaker’s standing: You to light that shows whether you’re when you look at the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth function and another one to implies the latest battery’s charges level. A third white next to the microphone key informs you when the mic is actually effective – Sonos says this is exactly tough-wired into the microphone circuitry once the fresh new white was from, you can be sure you to nobody is paying attention.
In the back, there are the fresh USB-C recharging port and you may a little energy switch that is and additionally used for Wireless pairing. When you find yourself household, you’ll want to exit brand new Wander constantly plugged in in order to energy it is therefore always happy to enjoy your audio, but if you likely will circulate they about a lot, you should benefit from the wireless charging you element.
Sonos deal a beneficial $fifty custom Qi charger that’s molded to match the bottom of Wander and will stand magnetically latched until you you need it, but I didn’t get one to evaluate. Not too they matters – any Qi battery charging mat does the job, and i also think it is an easy task to simply exit new Wander looking at one to when i wasn’t carting they around.
